Fans, let’s not waste time! HERE ARE THE REWARDS I’m so excited to have available for ALL OF YOU, and different ways you can access them! Thank you SO MUCH for supporting me every month. In these difficult times, it means the world to me that YOU TOO may be suffering through all this, and STILL you are wanting to support me. The utmost and sincerest thanks to YOU! -Chris

PEOPLE WHO AREN’T GIVING ME ANY MONEY!

It’s ok! Don’t feel guilty! I’m so overjoyed and flattered to realize that you’re enjoying what I do! I post a lot of free stuff too, simply because I’m so thankful to have you as a fan and best friend!

1. PLEASE: Enjoy without guilt all the free videos I’m posting at my youtube.com/Diaryofastrugglingcomicsartist. You can find a COMPLETE LIST of ALL the vids, and which one’s are free, at my blog chriswisniaarts.com/blog/archives/1150.

2. You can also find a ton of free comics at my website’s contents page chriswisniaarts.com/blog. (Click on Doris Danger to get started. There are others, but you gotta poke around a little.)

3. And lastly, I’m always posting samples of the art and stories that I’m working on, as well as my favorite music, movies, books, and comics, at Facebook, Twitter, and (a little less reliably) Instagram – all @ChrisWisniaArts. Let’s be best friends!

$1 Patrons!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! You didn’t have to do this, and you did anyways! Talk about the TRUEST, MOST SACRIFICING, GIVING donation!

$2 Patrons!

You have access to ALL MY COMICS, as well as TEXT FEATURES about those comics, at my www.chriswisniaarts.com/blog website. Just click on any comic book icons there, and they’ll take you to these projects’ tables of contents. To find the latest posts, select a comic from the Categories list on the right, under the Search and Pages.  These links will take you to all my posts for that particular project, listed Facebook-style, with most recent at the top. [Unfortunately, you may need to scroll through some $7 and $4 Patreon posts that you can’t access to get to your $2 comics, but doing so will find you the most recent stuff.]

Currently, I am spending alternating months – first posting new comics pages, then posting link features or text features.

$4 Patrons! (all the above, plus)

At my Patreon.com/ChrisWisniaArts, YOU can access tons of high res prints, audio commentary tracks, and screen savers!

For you art-process-o-philes, you can poke around within my web comics to find scans of ORIGINAL PENCILS, ALTERATIONS to the art before reaching the publishable piece, UNEDITED, UNCLEANED examples, and uncolored BLACK-AND-WHITE, PRE-COLORED inks. Pop over to my www.chriswisniaarts.com/blog website, and select the Categories (i.e., the comics project) of your choice from the list on the right, under the Search and Pages.  These links will take you to all my posts for that particular project, listed Facebook-style, with most recent at the top. [$4 Patreon NOTE: Apologies that you may need to scroll through some $7 Patreon posts to get to your kind $4 rewards that you can’t access, but rest assured, you will find them there.] Currently, I’m focusing new posts on my upcoming Brush with Peril graphic novel and my upcoming More Doris Danger graphic novel, and that’s where you will find these $4 Patreon rewards.

$7 Patrons! (all the above, plus)

1. You can ALWAYS access this AD-FREE PLAYLIST of all our Diary of a Struggling Comics Artist video interviews! These are updated every time we post a new vids!

2. I also post, JUST FOR YOU, multiple SELFIE VIDEO COMMENTARIES each month. They might be of me in exotic locales discussing my comics, or time-lapse videos of myself creating my art, or intimate dives into the artwork I’m working on – close-up looks at my original art in various stages, behind-the-scenes-peeks of what I’m drawing while I’m working on it, what concerns or challenges or ideas are going on in my head while I work on it, and more! Go to my www.chriswisniaarts.com/blog website, and select the Categories (i.e., the comics project) of your choice from the list on the right, under the Search and Pages.  These links will take you to all my posts of that project, listed Facebook-style, with most recent at the top. Currently, I’m focusing new posts on my upcoming Brush with Peril graphic novel and my upcoming More Doris Danger graphic novel. You can also click on any comic book icons on the blog page, which will take you to these projects’ tables of contents instead of the most brand-new posts.

$10 Patrons! (all the above, plus)

You have earned original sketches, and I am hopeful you will find this offer is sufficient to earn you your money’s worth and more!  I canceled your pledge tier (I think two years ago), but when I did, I promised I would honor the monies you had donated up to that point. I would like to now offer you to spend ALL your credits up to now toward either books from my store and/or original, published artwork from the $25 tier below. I will be in touch with you shortly, so that we can make this happen.

$25 Patrons!

IMPORTANT: Shortly, I’ll be sending you the first of a series – FINALLY! – of samples of my original artwork that YOU HAVE EARNED – and which I will be happy to send you. I apologize for such a delay, and thank you for your patience. Before the pandemic hit, I was dreading the time it takes hunting down and then photographing the art, taking time to upload the photos and put together and send you the links, and then take the time to organize and safely pack and then wait in the lines at the post office to ship all the work. THEN when the pandemic hit, I was concerned about putting myself potentially at risk in public at the post office.

BUT YOU DESERVE TO RECEIVE THE ARTWORK you’ve paid upfront. And we’re gonna get it to you, with my apologies for the silence and delay. Look for the bulletin soon, and I’ll also reach out personally, with thanks, to your personal emails I have on file.

* * *

Enjoy yourself, EVERYBODY, and THANK YOU SO MUCH for supporting me!

Chris

Question for my KIND Patreon supporters!

I really want to hear from you!

I’ve been dutifully posting a monthly update to alert you of all the material I’ve been posting, each month, for YOU kind, kind Patreon supporters! But I haven’t heard much from anyone, over all these years. Hey, everybody! Are you enjoying my posts? Are you enjoying my monthly updates? Is it helpful to have these links to what’s new? Do you like hearing what I’m up to? Would you be fine without these bulletins, because you’re not really reading them?  Are you not even really looking much at anything I’m up to, and you just like knowing you’re helping me, because you’re not really into comics, but you just want to help because we’re best friends, or you’re my mom?

I’d like to try an experiment this month. Shortly, I’ll be posting a new Monthly Reckoning – but it will be different this month. I want to see what you think, compared to the detailed Monthly reckoning highlighting everything I’ve been up to, both artistically and with my Patreon posts for YOU. This new bulletin – unless there’s something really big and important, like last month – will contain a concise, simple reminder (because I know there’s always a lot, and it’s confusing!) of all the places you can find YOUR Patreon rewards, or just find FREE STUFF I’ve got posted everywhere.

HERE’S WHY the experiment. All thanks to YOU kind Patreon supporters, my Patreon is currently making roughly $250 a month (If I round up). To show my thanks, I have been devoting roughly 20-30 hours a month to making sure new material is posted and available FOR YOU, here at my Patreon.com/ChrisWisniaArts or my ChrisWisniaArts.com/blog website. This entails resizing my art, uploading them to website or Patreon, putting them up and getting the coding set up for them to flow as web comics, including hyperlinks to the necessary places, or making them available as downloadable PDF’S, high res printables, screen savers, and so on, and then also putting together the mailers to you so you are aware of and can access all this new material.

This amount of time that I monthly dedicate DOES NOT include the hours I’m devoting to creating the actual stories and art, which is all the rest of my spare time. It also does not include all the time that my film editor is dedicating to creating our Youtube.com/DiaryOfAStrugglingComicsArtist videos that we produce weekly. I say this to illustrute as an example: if we dedicate this full $250 Patreon income toward an hourly wage for ONLY my Patreon rewards-posting time, I’m making $8.33- $12.50 an hour (which I’m happy and EXCITED to do for you, and which I find rewarding and fair in rewarding you for your kindness). And that leaves $0/hour from this income for my actual creation of art or my editor who is creating content for you. Please also keep in mind that of this $250 a month,  $90 of these pledges are supposed to go to kind patreons receiving original art from me. If we subtract out that money (which is fair, because that money is FOR the original art and not the Patreon perks), then my “income” drops to $5.33-$8 per hour.

I don’t point this out from malice. It is just a simple fact of the struggles artists face, trying to make a living dedicating themselves to their craft. And that’s why I want to hear from you! I want to hear you’re enjoying the work I create for you! I want to hear WHAT you’re enjoying! I want to hear if you mind if I streamline my monthly bulletins, and if in doing, you can still find all this material I’m working so hard to create for you! I’m working in a bubble here, even more so during this pandemic, and we should be making a community hear. It’s nice to hear my fans are appreciative.  I’m reaching out! Please! Just a quick to say hello!  Thanks as always for your support, your fandom, and your patronage.

Sincerely,
Chris

This Month’s Weekly Reckoning

Well, I finally did it, everybody! There’s still some editorial work to be done (and this project demands A LOT of it, but as of this week, I’ve finished up my upcoming graphic novel, Brush with Peril.

This project takes famous museum art and makes it characters and settings in a James Bond-style spy novel. For those who don’t know who Wayne Thiebaud is (from the quote above), I wrote about him and this project in THIS Blog entry.

* * *

But now, let’s get into this week’s list of FUN for YOU kind Patreon supporters!

This week I posted a TEN PAGE, full color (thanks to my best friend, Ricky Sprague) Doris Danger story from my upcoming More Doris Danger GIANT MONSTER Adventures! You can read it, beginning HERE! I posted so many pages, I didn’t have a chance to link our “first/previous/last links for all the characters/settings/story lines involved,” so I hope to get that up next!

Don’t forget, there are lots of other comics available to you, including stacks of Doris Danger comics that DO have all the “first/previous/last links for all the characters/settings/story lines,” over at ChrisWisniaArts.com/blog! Are you curious about the Giggling Scientists? Do you wonder what Mannequinny Weirdness is going on in New York? Do you wonder who Felk is? Click through the links to follow their stories! (Complete list of characters, factions, locations, and themes HERE!

For YOU great $4 Patrons (and higher):

In that above-mentioned 10-page story, I posted four pages of original scans of the artwork, before I cleaned them up or they were colored. Just click the green “Pre Edits” button when you see them! Here’s the first one!

At Patreon.com/ChrisWisniaArts, here’s a brand-new High Res SPLASH Page… Literally!! Get it?? Splash??

Doris Danger (vol. 1, Chpt. 6), page 043 – Commentary Video: Alan Moore’s letters pages in 1963 (1993, Image Comics)
(NOTE: This one was filmed in haste and anxiety because it was a crowded location, and instead of saying everything I wanted, I blurted out what sounds to me now like a misogynist jab, so please read the accompanying text for context. I’ll post a more thorough explanation in a new video next time around! What suspense for YOU!)

Then I posted some videos in my studio, so you can see me tracing my comics!:

Chris at the Tracing Table (Two Takes!)

And don’t forget you have access to AN AD-FREE PLAYLIST of all our Diary of a Struggling Comics Artist video interviews!

* * *

As usual, I am so appreciative in your faith in me, and support of me! I can’t say I couldn’t do it without you, because I am committed to creating my art, however it’s so satisfying to know that YOU are out there enjoying the results of my efforts and wanting to help me to succeed. For that, I can’t thank you enough.

Sincerely,
Chris

This Month’s Weekly Reckoning!

This month, I’ve been drawing Monster Trucks driving through ancient Chinese Landscapes, for my upcoming Brush with Peril project.  This is the final scene to draw for this mammoth 250+ page project! And I’ve gotta tell ya, these images were killing me, with so much detail! Here’s a sample (Can you find the monster trucks?):

(After Wen Zhengming (1470–1559), A Graceful Gathering at the Orchid Pavilion (Ming Dynasty 1368-1644), Palace Museum, Beijing:)

(After Shen Zhou, Peach Blossom Study (Ming Dynasty 1427-1509), National Museum of China, Beijing:)

(After Wang Meng, Ge Zhichuan Moving to the Mountains (Yuan Dynasty), The Palace Museum, Beijing:)

And here’s how I make page layouts for this project, by picking the images I want on the page, and figuring out how to place them so they all fit together to include space for the amount of dialogue I plan to have:

Once the layouts are determined, I can make the page from those designs:

Ok, enough blabbing. You’re probably interested to see all the great Patreon features I’ve posted this week (month). Well here are a few items:

For YOU great $2 Patrons (and higher),

PDF! Doris Danger vol. 1, Chapter 9 (six pages)

Also, here are a couple scripts – with some “origin story” info about the creation of Doris Danger’s third volume:

Doris Danger (vol. 3, Chapter 30), 003 – Script

Doris Danger (vol. 3, Chpt. 1), page 007 – Script

In addition, I realized that there were four Dr. DeBunko stories that I thought had been posted, but that had been corrupted and unopenable for who-knows-how-long! So I have restored those to readability, which means it’s a great time to check out the Dr. DeBunko page – eight of his eleven published short stories, as well as a fifteen-page never-before-published one!

And generally, don’t forget you’re welcome to pop over to ChrisWisniaArts.com/blog and read all my comics!

For YOU great $4 Patrons (and higher):

HIGH RES GIANT MONSTER Printable: Doris Danger (vol. 1, Chpt. 6), page 037

For YOU great $7 Patrons (and higher),

This Month’s Weekly Reckoning – STILL in shelter!

Hi, fans and best friends!

As this shelter in place continues, I continue to plug away at my epic spy-meets-modern-art project, A Brush with Peril. This week I’m completing the final chase sequence – with a vespa scooter and Rousseau’s Football Players packed into an NSU Prinz like a clown car.  These images below are after Camille Pissarro’s street scenes:

Here, they’re tearing over Monet’s Le pont de bois (1872), National Gallery of Canada, Ottowa, Ontario.

I’m hoping to finish this chase scene this week, and then all that’s left to complete this project is an epilogue! I feel like I’m getting so close! I’ve been working on it – off-and-on – for over ten years, and it’s gonna be 250+ pages!

OK, onto rewards for YOU KIND PATRONS!

This Month’s Weekly Reckoning – in shelter

I had a great birthday last week, as our shelter-in-place continues! I’ve been lucky with my day job teaching guitar lessons – the bulk of my students agreed to switch over to remote lessons on Zoom, and I continue to make a living and pay my mortgage and feed my family. I’ve been thankful for that, AND getting a lot of drawing done while at home, even with my family here with me at all times! Here’s a sample of the 39-page (!) Edgar Degas ballerina fight sequence I finished last month:
How many of these images do YOU recognize from museum visits?
Which reminds me, I posted this Brush with Peril – the Degas ballerina fight scene (time lapse video) for YOU kind $7 Patreon Patrons!

This shelter in place and my success with my online day job gave me an idea for the www.youtube.com/DiaryOfAStrugglingComicsArtist channel! I realized a lot of talented artists are home in shelter right now, and since I’ve been spending the last two months on Zoom, I realized this might be an opportunity for us! I made the decision to reach out to some of my best friends, and best friends I hoped to make, and have been scheduling and executing Zoom interviews for our documentary. We’ve got more filmed, and more in the works, but HERE’S a sample of some videos we’ve posted so far, for YOU kind, kind Patreon Patrons this month – and look at the length of these (!!):

This Month’s Weekly Reckoning

We’re still continuing to puhtz around with our new, exciting Patreon ideas for tiers, everybody! Still a lot of work to do, but here are a few changes we were able to enact:

$7 Patrons!

$4 Patrons!

  • As of this month, you lucky $4 Patrons have access to all previously $7 tier exclusive Patreon-only vids, from our Youtube series, “Diary of a Struggling Comics Artist.” That’s right, you can watch everything now! For real! We’re not just making up some sick joke to tease and humiliate you. Go ahead! Pop over to our master list of documentary clips and watch any or all of them. At current count, that’s at least 111 snippets of amazing, intimate interviews with your favorite creators in the comic book industry! Enjoy!

$2 Patrons!

$1 Patrons

We’re working toward eliminating this rewards level and converting it to a “thanks for supporting us, since you appreciate how hard we’re working,” but whew, that’s a lot of old posts to convert to the new price.  This means, for now, you can continue to enjoy a bunch of comics, until they get converted to the new $2 cost level. So sorry to do this to you guys, because you’re our best friends! Hopefully you get enough joy and entertainment from our free features (like the  Doris Danger semi-interactive web comic and YouTube.com/DiaryOfAStrugglingComicsArtist) that it’s worth your while! Or perhaps you might consider upping your pledge by a mere dollar to get what used to be our $4 tier’s rewards! Either way, we love and appreciate you!

Everybody!

Thank you so much for another month of your support! What a crazy time to be living, in our shelter-in-placed lives! I have never seen anything like this! It has given me the opportunity to spend more time with my family, watching shows we enjoy, cooking meals together, and it has also given me more time to really hunker down and get productive, drawing my comics. I look forward to sharing them with you! I hope all the above rewards, newly priced, give you some fun down-time to enjoy yourselves from your homes.

Sincerely,
Chris

This Month’s Weekly Reckoning

Well, everybody, we’re getting ready to do a massive change to our Patreon set-up, that will add additional perks to you fine Patreon supporters, and will give your current tiers additional, until-now-undreamed-of rewards. These changes will benefit ALL OF YOU, EXCEPT (I’m sorry, guys, but I wanted to give you a month’s notice), the $1 level, which has become the Patreon-industry level for “Thanks so much for your kind, kind support, and at this level, you’re a super cool-and-kind best friend, willing to toss us a buck-a-month for our hard work, and you don’t need any rewards in return.”  I feel lousy about it, but… inflation, everyone!

But wait!… Our $2 level is going to combine our previous $1, $2, AND $4 levels! So we’re hopeful you kind $1-guys-and-gals might consider it “worth your while” bumping up a buck a month to continue riding with us!

As you can imagine, with this crazily humongo-re-vamp, we’ve hit some snags on such a change-over of this scale, not to mention the “Corona snags” that it would appear have affected the entire artistic community of the world.  We’ll have more info and surprises next week, and hope you can stick around until then to see what we’ve got in store!

For this month’s treasure trove of goodie-rewards:

(above: Steve Ditko packs his two most significant creations into one comic, when Spider-Man meets Dr. Strange in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2 (1965).)

For YOU kind $1 Patrons, please enjoy this Letter I sent to Steve Ditko, and his response. Steve Ditko, with Stan Lee, created Spider-Man and Dr. Strange in the 1960’s, and he was a major inspiration to me as a child as well as now, as an adult. Which you can read about in my letter!

Also for YOU kind $1 Patrons, please enjoy the third and final installment of this never-before-published Dr. DeBunko adventure that I drew way back in 2009: “The Church of Fundamentalist Norse God Creationists!” If you enjoy my Dr. DeBunko comics, you can access a whole bunch of ’em HERE!

Also for YOU kind $4 Patrons, I posted Doris Danger (vol. 2, Chpt. 3), page 034, a Doris Danger GIANT MONSTER menacing the Arc de Triomphe!

And of course, plenty more “Diary of a Struggling Comics Artist videos,” alphabetically by the 100+ artists HERE, or by the reverse order they were published (newest first), HERE.

Lastly, for you kind $7 Patrons (soon to drop to the $4 level! ) I continue to add to these “across-the-exotic-globe” selfies of me talking about my Doris Danger comics!  Check out Fezzies (006) filmed in Apple Hill, CA, or the Eiffel Tower (page 012) filmed in New York, NY, and then click the “published” (or page number) button to see the comic that the videos refer to!

And did you hear?? Doris Danger has just been signed to Fantagraphics’ F.U. imprint. You can read the mission statement of F.U. – Fantagraphics underground –  HERE, and see some of the work they’ve published HERE!

Thanks, everybody, and I look forward to trying something new with you, if all goes well, beginning next month!
Sincerely,
Chris

Weekly Reckoning

Happy Valentines Day, my kind Patreon Patrons and fans and best friends!

As usual, I’m wishing I were more productive this last month, but unfortunately my kids keep having these three day weekends (It’s bizarre – this week is the FOURTH three-day weekend they’ve had since Christmas/New Year’s Break!), and that means more family time and less comics-creating time. In addition, this horrendous flu swept through our house, where we each were lain out so badly we just lied in bed for three plus days, too miserable-feeling to even read or watch tv – just lying there waiting for the week to go by. So I had it for a week with one son – no work, then my wife had it the following week – not much work, then my other son stayed home with it while I was home not able to work much! And now Valentines Day, and not much time to work with all this “love” in the air! AND it’s only a 28 day month! Less days to make comics! I’m hopeful I can turn this lack of productivity around soon, fans!

All this said, I DID work hard to try and get some goodies out to you kind, kind Patrons and supporters of my work.

You can always check out a new and FREE “Diary of a Struggling Comics Artist” video every week!

Here are the ones that Schantz Studio Productions and I posted this week:

104a. JOHNNY RYAN
(video, approx. 3:20, Public)105a. TERRY MOORE (video, approx. 5:50, Public)

106a. STEVE LEIALOHA
 (video, approx. 4:40, Public)

107a. DICK AYERS
 (video, approx. 3:50, Public)

108a. MICK GRAY
 (video, approx. 3:50, Public)

Kind $1 Patrons, please enjoy the second of three installments in a never-before-published Dr. DeBunko adventure that I drew way back in 2009: “The Church of Fundamentalist Norse God Creationists!” If you enjoy my Dr. DeBunko comics, you can access a whole bunch of ’em HERE!

Kind $4 Patrons, I posted not one, not two, not zero, not four or five or six or seven or a negative number or… Oh! You think you can guess how many? … That’s right, THREE Spider Twins Audio Commentary tracks about the creation of my much-despised and eye-rolled-at Spider Twins project. The three newly posted audio tracks:
6. Chapter Five: Trying to Get “A Look”
7. Chapter Six: Professional Wrestling
and (this is funny, I somehow skipped this one way back, and realized it and decided I’d better post it!:
3. Chapter Two: Post-Pubescent Influences

If you enjoy the Spider Twins (and I’m guessing you DON’T!), you can check them out HERE!

Kind $7 Patrons, there are extended cuts of ALL the above “Diary” videos! Poke over to the MASTER LIST, to find all the Patreon cuts made JUST FOR YOU! You can also pop over to www.Patreon.com/ChrisWisniaArts, and click on your $7 membership link to access your extra-special Patreon-Cut Playlist over on Youtube!

Thanks as always, everyone! I’m so proud to have you as my supporters!

Sincerely,
Chris
